In the fall of 2007, through a partnership with the Illinois Institute of Rural Affairs and Verizon, I was asked to develop the official website for the Lions Club of Wyoming, Illinois. The mission of this site is to keep members up-to-date, inform the public of Lions Club activities, and increase awareness of Lions Club on both the local and international levels. In addition to employing my technical skills in the creation of the site, I was also able to call upon my aesthetic sensibilities when creating the art assets. Furthermore, this site required that I construct (and publicly display) messages on behalf of the Lions Club.
This site is a successful demonstration of my written and visual communication skills for a variety of reasons. First and foremost, this website gained the approval of an actual client with real needs and opinions; the website administrator of the Wyoming Lions Club has mentioned that he really enjoys the site and thinks I did a superb job. Also, the art on the site reflects a professional image. Bold colors and a tactful banner echo the values of Lions Club. And, while the content of the site will change as the website administrator sees fit, the messages that I wrote for the site are strong, succinct statements that help the user understand the organization.
