Changing the World: One Child at a Time Persuasive Speech CATA 233: Advanced Public Speaking Changing_The_World.pdf
This speech, presented in October of 2005 to my Advanced Public Speaking class, attempts to persuade the audience to combat hunger and poverty in the world by donating to the World Vision relief organization.
This topic can leave people feeling powerless, and so I structured this persuasive speech so that it instead had the effect of empowering students to enact change. I accomplished this task by loosely following the Monroe motivated sequence and suggesting child sponsorship through World Vision as a practical solution. Since child sponsorship is relatively inexpensive it is the perfect solution for college students (the primary audience).
The twelve quality resources I gathered for this 6-8 minute speech allowed me to prove the magnitude of the problem, the effectiveness of the solution, and the urgency in my voice. In addition, I succeeded in utilizing both logical and emotional appeals to persuade the audience.
